Identity Theft
Identity theft occurs when someone assumes another's identity
to illegally obtain credit or steal money from your accounts. Follow these
steps to help protect your identity:
Protect your personal information
Be cautious of giving out credit card or social security numbers unless
you're sure about the identity of the person receiving your personal
information. Never use a public terminal to access account information.
Report lost or stolen checks or credit/debit cards immediately
Contact your financial
institutions and credit card companies as soon as possible to close
and/or block unauthorized use.
Carefully examine monthly account statements
Compare
receipts and purchases to those listed on your statement. Look
to see if check numbers are out of sequence and report any suspicious
activity to your financial institution.
Review your credit report at least once a year
Washington
state residents can obtain a free credit report each year by visiting
www.annualcreditreport.com or
